About Big Sky Montana Beef

Malek Angus Ranch is a purebred Angus cattle ranch located north of the Highwood mountain range. This is a foothills ranch where pheasants and mule deer are abundant and some special Angus cattle roam. The ranch is owned and operated by Ty Malek who is a third generation rancher.

"When I first started the cattle were commercial. Over the last thirty years I have been slowly switching my herd to registered and purebred cows.

The dream at the Malek Angus Ranch started when I was a little boy and I entered 4H to start showing cattle. At the young age of nine, my mom thought I was too young g to show cattle, so I convinced the 4H leader to sign my application to enter the county fair. From that year on, I entered a prize steer at the fair until I left the state to attend college.

After enjoying my years at Concordia College in Minnesota and a successful football career, I made the choice to come home and run the family ranch. I wanted to manage the cattle on the family ranch where artificial insemination became a way to breed cows. I wanted to raise registered bulls and heifers so i purchased some select females over the next several years. The bulls from the registered cows were sold private treaty and all heifers were retained to increase numbers and pave the way to another successful bull sale. The bull sale was well established around the state in a short time becoming one of the top sales in the state. Now that the bull sale has been established some of the top herd sires in the country have been added to the Malek Angus Ranch.

With these kinds of genetics, MAR has started a beef program where old bulls from past sales are purchased back to make beef jerky. That allows our customer top buy another breeding bull. This program allows us to sell each bull twice and have constant contact with each customer.

The constant supply of beef from our customers has allowed us to gain valuable feedback of the quality of meat that we are producing.

The ultimate carcass test is done by delivering to a familiar front door and getting feedback on what they think it tastes like. That kind of relationship is what makes this cattle operation so rewarding. My reward comes from getting to know my customers a friends."

All the best
